This service works differently from keyword-based promotion and requires a different approach. Below is everything you need to know to use it effectively.

What is Category Rankings Promotion?

Category Rankings Promotion is a service that helps your app increase visibility by improving its rank inside Google Play category charts. Instead of targeting a specific search keyword, you influence how your app performs in the category lists users browse (e.g., Top Free in a category).

This service currently supports:

If your app is paid, or if you’re focusing on App Store, this service won’t apply.

Category promotion vs keyword promotion (important!)

Category rankings promotion is not the same as keyword ranking growth since it is:

  1. More competitive. Category charts are influenced by many apps at once, not just your keyword peers.
  2. Less stable. Rankings can move up and down more often.
  3. Traffic-intensive. To move positions, you may need large daily volumes, often starting from a few thousand per day.
  4. Requires stability. A steady daily flow matters more than “short spikes.”

How Google Play category rankings behave

Google updates category rankings more frequently than keyword rankings, so positions can change more often and rankings react faster to changes in traffic volume. If you reach a desired position and then reduce volumes, your position may drop quickly. So once you achieve a good result, it’s usually smarter to maintain it with installs instead of letting the flow collapse.

Step-by-step: How to use Category Rankings Promotion on Keyapp

1. Go to the Keyapp platform, click the “Add Campaign” option, and choose “App Category Installs”.

2. Choose your app, target county, and the category you want to improve in.

3. Choose installs amount and launch the campaign.

Do not forget that category promotion is competitive and unstable, so your daily volume should be higher than for keyword promotion. Also, if you want to maintain results, remember about consistency, since steady daily delivery matters..
